About Me
I am a mom of two wonderful and energetic toddlers, wife and partner to an amazing man, and an enthusiastic runner, family chef, co-CEO of my house. I am also a self-proclaimed researcher/learner/teacher of all things pelvic health and core rehabilitation. I love (i.e. LOVE) to learn and finding my place in the world within postpartum rehab and education has been one of the most fascinating rabbit holes I have fallen down.
After two careers (as a radio DJ out east, and a legal assistant in Chicago) I found my "calling". I love the human body and I love to optimize human performance. So physical therapy was a natural fit. It just took me 29 years to find it! After completing physical therapist assistant schooling in Salt Lake City, Utah, I worked in a very busy and thriving outpatient clinic with the best mentor I could imagine. I learned so much more working with him than I could have dreamed possible. Then we relocated to Madison, Wisconsin earlier this year and I have turned my focus closer to home and have chosen to stay home with the kids and soak up this fleeting time of life.
I have been a serious runner for over 20 years, dabbling for several of those years in ultra distance running through cities, mountains, and deserts. Then lots of things changed following a very traumatic and physically/mentally/emotionally damaging birth with my second. Suddenly, my identity of the last two decades was gone. As I pulled myself out of the darkness of some PPD and PTSD I started to learn all I could about why my body responded the way it did, why my back hurt so much, why my mind couldn't let go of what happened, and what I could do to make real change for myself and get back on track. I did everything. At first it was a pure need for better daily functioning. Gradually, it became an obsession and desire to learn it all. I would never have guessed I would be where I am now even just one year ago! Having some time and space to do more now, I found the Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist certification course and took the plunge. It sounds trite but this has changed me forever.
Then I wanted to know how I could help other women. That brings us to now :)
This blog will be about all things pelvic health, pelvic rehab, postpartum rehab and exercise, pregnancy health and exercise, running, exercising with diastasis recti and pelvic organ prolapse, core rehab, breathing, and alignment. So many wonderful things!! Patient/client education surrounding the child-bearing years is severely lacking and in many cases it is just non-existent. We need to talk about these things and spread the word. Call it an underground movement, call it going against the establishment, No more hearing, "It's normal after having babies." Just because it happens a lot DOES NOT MAKE IT NORMAL. Let's do better...together!
